Happiest of Birthdays to my handsome man! I'm so grateful to be able to spend this week with you in a city we both love. I'm also even more grateful to be able to wake up and fall asleep next to you everyday. I hope you had a good day and that I could make it special even though the weather was a bit of a downer. The delicious meal we shared with views of Navy Pier will be something k remember for a long time. I love you long time! πŸ’™ #birthdayboy #25 #quartercentury #oldman

This is my boy. His name is Dude and I helped clean him up when he was born 15 years ago. He was the runt of the litter and we weren't sure if he'd make it, but a summer of care ensured that he'd make it past Bones, Ribs, and Little Dude. We've ran together, camped together, road tripped together, and grown older together. I wasn't there with him for a few years in college, but he was always happy to see me and get the scratches when I came home. He'd lay his head on my leg and pass out, cementing me on the spot. He's slower than he used to be, naps more than he ever has, but always by your side. He's blind, and no longer jumps up to meet me, is deaf and no longer hears my call. He can still smell, and knows a friendly smell to cuddle up next to for safety. The hardest part about moving to Colorado was leaving him behind, knowing that I might never see him again. My parents brought him out this weekend. We walked, relaxed in the river, napped in the mountains, and smelled all the good smells together with me as his seeing eye human one last time. Tomorrow I am heading off to work, and he is heading home to California, napping across the states, and I will miss him. He knows who the good boy is, and he will always be my good boy. I only hope I can half the human he thinks I am.
